Sean Speirs

Head Producer and Host Sean Speirs is going into his senior year at American University, continuing his studies in Film and Media Communications, Broadcast Journalism, Marketing, and Computer Science. Born and raised near the beaches of South Jersey, Sean has come to love sports, including its competitive edge and surrounding news. While being an athlete himself (soccer, basketball, and baseball) and growing accustom to sports knowledge, Sean knew that SportsZone was the perfect place to exemplify and build upon these traits in the world of Communications. The Randy Moss

The third year producer/host’s favorite sports teams include the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers; the teams that are also home to his favorite athletes Derek Jeter (NY) and Kobe Bryant (LA). Television sports-coverage programs that Sean enjoys, besides ATV’s SportsZone, include Pardon the Interruption, ESPN First Take, and Around the Horn.

In addition to SportsZone, other experience includes video-editing the annual collegiate sports Highlight and Senior video for American University’s Athletic Department and occassionally color commentating/play-by-play announcing American University Field Hockey and Women’s Volleyball matches.

Sean hopes to continue to improve SportsZone to its highest potential and beyond at American University. By having such a dedicated cast/crew (the best that’s out there-couldn’t be more proud), Sean knows that this revitalized version of SportsZone is only the beginning…and the best is yet to come.

Dan “The Kinger” King

dan king

Dan “The Kinger” King is in his senior year at American University, majoring in Accounting and Economics.  However, that hasn’t stopped his passion for all things sports-related.

Dan grew up going to Yankee Stadium frequently because of his father’s position working for the NYPD in the House That Ruth Built.  He will often refer to moments of past Yankee glory, and has even been lucky enough to be a witness to several great moments, most notably the night his favorite player, Derek Jeter became known as “Mr. November.”  As if he weren’t spoiled enough, Dan is amongst a group of people who can say that he has stepped foot onto the field, into the dugouts and bullpens, and sat in almost every location imaginable.  In addition to this, King is an avid New York Jets and New York Rangers fan, although he admits that he will never see a Jets game in person until they make it back to the Super Bowl.

Dan grew up and lived off of ESPN at home and WFAN 660 in New York on the road, especially the now defunct Mike and the Maddog Show, to which he credits his passion for the game and his teams, as well as an ability to balance his fandom with unbiased opinions.

King was brought into SportsZone by his predecessor, Justin Fensterman, in the fall of 2008 and quickly worked his way through the ranks to become one of the show’s main panelists for the 2009-10 season. King and Fensterman were also partners for AU Athletics last season, as the Color and Play-by-Play for AU Women’s Basketball.

King has worked with AU Athletics for the past three years in their Communications Department, and is currently in his second year as Eagles Vision TV’s (formerly Eagles All-Access) head producer, covering all home events for all teams at American University, often times working alongside Tom Anderson and Steve Rosenberg, who are broadcasters for Eagles Vision.

You can see Dan on SportsZone every week on Ch.2 or Ch.15 on the AU campus, or you can check out the episodes at auatv.com, or by downloading them off of iTunes (for FREE!)

Tom “Terrific” Anderson

SportsZone analyst Tom “Terrific” Anderson is in his senior year at American University majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in History.

Born on the Fourth of July, Terrific grew up playing and watching every sport imaginable. Since the age of 7, Tom has watched SportsCenter every morning prior to school and he credits a majority of his sports knowledge to this morning ritual.

Tom grew up in a small town called Mendham, which is located in Northern New Jersey. Anderson is a New York Mets, New Jersey Nets, New York “Superbowl Champion” Giants, and San Jose Sharks fan. His favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant.

Tom got involved with SportsZone his sophomore year and has loved every second of it. It has been a great experience for him and he is determined to expand SportsZone to make it the best sports show possible.

His previous work experience in the sports world includes an internship with a Minor League baseball team called the Sussex Skyhawks. Tom wrote press releases for the Sussex Skyhawks through SussexSkyhawks.com.  He also worked as an official scorer, with on field promotions, as well as as an attendant in the ticket office.  His other internships have included interning with CBS-2 in New York City as well as CBS Sports in NYC.  There, he assisted producers on shoots all over New York going to such venues as Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, Giants Stadium, and Madison Square Garden.

Tom currently works as a play by play announcer and color analyst for AU Eagles Vision TV which covers all of American University’s sports.

“Let it marinate!” This phrase became famous around  American University’s campus by the great Tom “Terrific” Anderson on his second career episode of SportsZone.

Tune in to Channel 2 or Channel 15 on campus to see Terrific host his own segment ‘Terrific Talk’ every Tuesday night.  SportsZone and ‘Terrific Talk’ can also be found every week on auatv.com for those of you who are not in the Washington D.C. area.

What is ‘Terrific Talk’? It is a roving sports segment where Terrific runs around campus interviewing the student body different sports questions to test American University’s sports knowledge.
